I'm a firm believer that to really understand a business takes years, not months. As an investment analyst you think you understand a business from the outside, but the reality is that, once you are inside, you can go on learning for five or ten years.

Prospective Students

The Applied Portfolio Management Program offers a unique opportunity for up to twelve students to become actual investment managers.  The program was initiated in 1998 through the generous contributions of alumni and friends.  The program enjoys the continual support of many firms, the University, and alumni.  Professor Dean Johnson is the current Program Director.

The participants of the program are selected through a rigorous testing and interview process.  Criteria important in the selection include: 

Students entering the program create a new investment management firm for the performance period beginning the first day of class through their last presentation to the board.  The program provides students with a forum to develop their academic and interpersonal skills and to become highly successful investment professionals.  In addition, participants derive enormous benefit and support from an on-going interaction with alumni and Advisory Board members, who currently maintain high visibility positions.
