 Why Study Accounting?

An accounting degree is often referred to as "the one degree with 360 degrees of freedom." The broad range of knowledge that accountants obtain about organizations' operations and how those operations impact achievement of organization goals provides them with an extensive range of career opportunities. For example, accountants may become partners in CPA firms--or FBI agents, Chief Financial Officers of major corporations--or Real Estate developers, Chief Executive Officers--or entrepreneurs.

Individuals pursuing a career in accounting should enjoy working with numbers, be effective communicators, and have the skills to work well with people as they analyze and interpret financial information. Accountants must be prepared to take on challenges as they develop and adapt accounting information to a constantly changing and dynamic environment. Accountants should expect to be confronted with new types of transactions to measure and report, and to respond to managers' and investors' demands for new types of information to support their activities.
