Attack on New York :  Solving the Mystery

It was like a Hollywood movie. The world watched in horror as the huge Twin Towers crumbled. Thick clouds shrouded the city. The 11th of September, 2001 will live in infamy in the minds of Americans, as did the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. "Terrorism against our nation will not stand," President Bush said before leaving for the capital.

Then he called for a moment of silence. "May God bless the victims, their families and America," he said, his voice breaking with emotion. "May God bless the victims . . . "  The question arises as to where God is when tragedy strikes. Where was He when thousands of lives were taken in such horrific circumstances? The answer to the mystery is in the Bible.

God's promised blessings of health and protection from enemies are dependant upon something we have forgotten about righteousness. Abraham Lincoln said, "We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God." Most Americans believe in God, but as the Bible says, we "draw near to Him with our lips, but our hearts are far from Him." As a nation we have loved violence. We feed on sex. In the name of liberty we have murdered our children while they are still in the womb. We blaspheme God's name without a second thought . . . and we have lost His blessing. In the last 10 years there have been more than 200,000 murders. Cancer has invaded our nation. It's easy to speak of "America" sinning against God, but let's personalize it. Is your life pleasing to your Creator? Have you loved God above all else? Or have you made a god to suit yourself (created a god you feel comfortable with)? Have you ever taken His holy name in vain? Have you kept the Sabbath holy? Have you honored your parents? Jesus said, "You have heard it said by them of old, You shall not commit adultery, but I say to you, whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? Have you ever lied (even once-fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything-the value is irrelevant)? Do you think that you will be innocent or guilty on the Day of Judgment? Listen to your conscience. You know that you will be guilty, and therefore end up in Hell.

That's not God's will. He provided a way for you to be forgiven. He sent His Son to take your punishment: "God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." All of the sins of the world were laid on Him. He was bruised for our iniquities. Jesus then rose from the dead and defeated death. Please, confess and forsake your sins right now. God's grace is the only thing that can save this nation. Politics cannot do it. Pray something like this: "Dear God, please forgive my sins (name them). I repent of every sin I have ever committed. I thank you that Jesus took my punishment, and rose again on the third day. I now put my trust in Him to be my Lord and my Savior. In Jesus' Name I pray." Now read the Bible daily and obey what you read. God will never let you down.
